In just 20 years Nightingale territories at Knepp have increased by 5000% and the Estate now holds roughly 1% of the UK population. The abundance of scrub and wood-pasture habitat has created the ideal conditions for this species to thrive.

Southern Migrant Hawker

The Southern Migrant Hawker is a large, agile dragonfly that has recently colonised Britain, thriving at Knepp’s ponds and wetlands where it finds perfect breeding and hunting habitat.

Willow Emerald

First recorded in Britain in 2007, the Willow Emerald has rapidly expanded its range, thriving at Knepp’s wetlands and riparian habitats.
